League Race #8 Results

Hi Folks,
Just results today, I'll see if I can do all the uploadery stuff with the vids later.

Clubman Roundup
AEM S2000 cars on Race/Hard at Laguna eh? Well, those cars continue to bite if you push too hard. They're an excellent race school car for that, and the racing was suitably hectic as a result.
I can't remember too much, a sure sign that concentration was full on during that race.
Again, the clubman has proven itself as a viable racing challenge if not an outright pro event thanks to pretty dire handling cars.

Championship Roundup
Epic race folks.
Introducing the tyre wear into the mix really shook the racing up. And although it was racing mediums and single stop as the preferred (some of you were doing the hards in the first stint though right?), the time of the stop really made the difference.
Chris, your Honda really suffered with an overly early pit in I think, probably cost you the race. Evan, the only way to go when you're at the front is back, but you held on to a well deserved win I think.
George - classic, "Nooooooo hard tyres again!" - the results speak for themselves there for sure, unlucky chap.
Luke's race was full on too - many times you were in the mix chap - I'm glad, those of us that practice a lot (err me) should have it easier, but it's great to see you dicing with the pack in that race.

Special mention to Evan though, through the miracle that is endurance racing this is the first winning whitewash this season, and possibly ever. Good show sir!

After races
The HRC460 class continues to be thrashed and tested. Chris's skyline (the one coloured like a detergent bottle) has had it's teeth pulled in no uncertain terms. It's still a contender, but I can see the the likes of the Countach and the Ferrari are going to be hard to beat in a race, maybe only the Countach actually.
What is for sure is that the class is here to stay. It's great fun and a nice balance of slightly slower with slightly less grip.

Next week
This next week is a pointless night and the calendar has it as a TC500 night. We'll certainly do some class racing, but will also look to do some trials of other cars.
One thing I'm keen to try is 600pp 4WD Race cars (so R35 Turing Cars basically). If you have something suitable, feel free to gift it to me and I'll fettle and gift back. Or roll your own - prefer that in fact, we get a mix of race handling!
Also, start checking the second had car dealership for HRC460 capable cars - last night I picked up a Yellow Bird (now Red Bird) and a Honda NSX '90 - is this the class winning car (not by the test lap it's not).

Race on!

League Business

So I've been online. Here's the news...

Certainly pp points have been reset. That's a good thing, unless as I mentioned below you've done an irreversible tuning upgrade on your car. Luck with that...

So what's going to change in the league now? Here's a FAQ thingy...

1. TC500 is back right?
A: Nope, well, we might race them again, but we'll give the cars a rest for a season or so, just like the 587pp cars.

2. HRC420 is the go then?
A: Nope. I did some test laps, it'll be HRC460. So cars that are 1990 and before @ 460pp (again, details in a post below). The good news is that the Lamborghini Countach is now a contender, along with other older classic super cars. Great!

3. GT590-4 what's that?
A: We'll never know! I had planned to allow 4WD cars in the GT590 class. As it is now (back how it was) I think we'll not do that. I might still do some testing there to see how we go, but the GT590 race of this week is 2WD only.

4. Why are you doing this at just off Midnight?
A: Oh.

5. We didn't do a Targa Florio race earlier in the season, the pp changes broke it.
A: Yup, and now it's back, expect that to rise again the following weeks. We even have a special track for it. Just search this blog for Targa, it's sure to come up.

6. Is it true you accept donations in any currency?
A: All but the Lek.

That's it folks. See you online for testing and racing this week.

Cheers.

PPppppperfect. Almost.

Good news everyone.
All your cars you've done irrecoverable tuning updates on have just gone back to how they were, so are now outclassed in TC500.

More here.

Given that I now feel completely confused by pp points and what the HRC420 is/was err whatever I need to have some light relief. So, here's how I'll be doing my pit stops in the upcoming GT590 (err, GT612, er, yeah that) race:

League Race #8

It's upon us, a fortnight late I notice, but nevertheless...

The Track
Leguna Seca. Arguably the most prolific of race game circuits. It's been in everything.
It's an excellent track to race on though, plenty of overtaking and 'mistake' points in the track, and what's more this race is an endurance one!

The Cars
They're back, they're largely not affected by the PP shenanigans (OK I'll stop going on about that) and they're awesome. How awesome with tyre wear on we'll find out eh...

Old and new..

Notes
This is a long race folks, so Simon you'll need another cushion in your cage for sure. It's an endurance race by stealth actually, expect this to be a 1 hour race folks. Epic - and with tyre wear. Luke, you'll need some extra fuel to be finishing remember....

History returns

So, TC500 is dead to us, mostly.
The last race (see below, you did read that post and watch the video didn't you) is run, what's left is some shenanigans with no points nights and then its TC500 no more.

But all is not lost, oh no. Behold:

HRC420

No, it's not some form of lady's hormone replacement therapy. It is however our new class (err, proposed).
Rules for this class:

  • 1990 or before, no minimum age.
  • Road cars only (no racers).
  • Any drive type (luck finding a good 4wd!).
  • 2 & 4 doors possible.
  • Racing Hard tyres
  • 420pp
The jury is out regarding earliest date, 1985 and before would be better but I think the racing would be too hard for some - the cars are quite the handful.
Reality is that there are some cars that are going to ace this, and there are some that aren't made in 1990...

Here's a quick spin through some that I've got, there are a few...

Gold, but not to drive. Disappointing...

Just not enough poweerrrrr - why no PP shuffle?

Potential I'm sure.

Class leader material, in dealership.

Such a pretty car.

Booorrrrrrrinnnnng

Not boring, not fast either.

Champion's Choice.

Nutter's Choice.

It's back!

It's black! (and remarkably fast).

Jaaaaag. A slow one.

Drift Madness.

Cheese wedge madness.

Not really a contender.

Full circle, my first in-game car!

Bananananana

Has some potential I think.

Sled

Dread.

League Race #7 Results

Finally.

Race Round Up

Clubman
Our venerable (venereal?) clubman series had us racing Aston Martins around Motegi East. As usual the cars were super close in the racing, with high boost helping.
Really it's anyone's race in this series I think, and that action happens all the way through the field. Certainly in the last couple of laps Luke and I had a really top scrap for some of the lower places - great stuff.
Expect to see those cars again, or at least more likely than the Tesla Hipster thing that we raced a few weeks back.

Championship
A bit of melancholy here the last points night in the season for TC500 cars, and to be frank, probably for ever. The pp changes haven't been kind, in fact they've made some of the cars too quick (exit Evan's Commodore) and some too slow (exit my BMW cars, remember the green shoe?). In a cruel twist of irony though, BTCC went the same way. Regulation changes made it hard to compete, dropping all but Vauxhall and I think Honda (though I may be wrong there), and we've just had a race largely the same; Luke was brave with his 'factory' RX8 but the racing was dominated by Mercedes and Lexus.
But the tale doesn't end there, as much like happened in BTCC, it just made the racing closer - and what an epic race that last race at Grand Valley was. I might have come third, but I reckon it was up there in the most intense racing I've done... It was almost foregone that the Mercs were going to come past, three fast drivers in fast cars, all set up differently, so all pushing at different times. And all it took was the most minor of mistakes and it was all over for me in the following lap. Exception racing and the replay (on it's way) shows that.
A fitting end to what has been an enduring class I think you'll all agree.

Where are my League Results?!

Errr, yes.
Well, turns out that everything was more interesting than doing that this weekend - I blame the weather (it was too good).
So, mountain biking @ Tewantin = excellent, especially if you find the secret descent (Which we did).
And, you'll be pleased to know that I've sorted all my NAS sharing issues, don't do the MS Home Group thing mmmkay.

Your FQA (I'll let you guess the words) representative has also been hampered by an on-night communication failure - that being his brain didn't tell his hand to grab the phone and take a picture of the results. Chris I blame you for the good idea without any BCP strategy.
Disaster this may be but there is light at the end of the tunnel though (and it's not the 4:45 from Ipswich), I recorded the races, I just need to re-watch them and all good.

But I've not done that.

What I have done is upload our 650Open Spa race of the other week, enjoy:

That 80's night...

And here's the video in all it's (mostly) yellow glory. I feel I should appologise for my car. Again.

More vids to follow.

Cheers.
