Rules - REVISED

Race League Charter

Thanks to Andrew who reviewed the rules.

The following outlines the way in which an FCT GT5 member should host a race and how the league will operate.
It should be noted that this league’s aim is to be a fun race environment, not the next F1 wannabe proving ground. Those deemed to be ‘over competitive’ will be called an arse and told to wind it in. Persistent muppets will be publicly ridiculed (inflated pigs bladders and tri-pointed bell hats will be optional).

Races are expected to be around a schedule of one official league race per month.

As the league develops we may wish to change some of the limiting options of our online race settings. This will be done following group proposal.

Race nights will be made up of the following schedule:

  1. A round robin approach will be taken to organising races - The list will be published on the blog.

  2. The race organiser will setup a lounge in their PS3 GT5 persona, unless agreed and communicated that another racer will host on organisers behalf. To be completed at least one night before - no ‘Hang on, just installing a bit more of the game’ moments please.

  3. Track chosen will be announced at least one week before the race, to allow those more time bound racers time to practice.

  4. Appointed start time no sooner than 8:45pm - suggested 9pm BNE.

  5. 10 Minutes of practice/qualifying is acceptable.

  6. Race 1 - In ascending practice lap time order (traditional qualifying grid, fastest first).

  7. Race 2 - In descending practice lap time order.

  8. Lap number & race length should allow for each race to be around 10 minutes long. Exceptional endurance races by agreement with the group only.

Suggested Settings

  1. Regulation settings:

    1. . Car settings are up to the organiser to arrange, but consider:

      1. Don't forget to set your tyres to racing tyres under car options, unless you like real challenges...

      2. An open garage may mean someone has something faster than your 1000Bhp skyline...

      3. Lower power races (less than 250Bhp) means closer racing generally.

    2. Driving aids not disabled, except:

    3. Suggest racing line disabled - to allow for more ‘wild’ driving!

  2. Track settings:Any track is fine

    1. Consider the length of the race though.

  3. Event Settings (Those that matter, others, set as you wish):

    1. Game Mode: Normal Race

    2. Start Type: Grid or rolling start is fine.

    3. Grid Order: See ascending/descending grids in race night schedule.

    4. Penalty: set to Low/None (we’re friends right!)

    5. Mechanical Damage: Low/None.

    6. Boost: Catch up set to Low/High (not Off).

Points
Points rules are as follows:

  1. All race attendees get a point - turn up and you’re sure to get a point.

  2. Points are calculated from field size, e.g. six cars, winner gets six points, second place gets five points and so on.

  3. Don’t start race, don’t get a point (If you just come to watch, you don’t get a point!).

  4. Assuming an eight race championship, each driver drops two race results (the lowest naturally). Shorter championship seasons will drop only one race result.

  5. Guest/phantom (can we stop other attendees?) racers just don’t get points, their place will be subtracted from the points total.

  6. An appointed points person will capture race results - we’ll keep a league table for review.

  7. Appeals are accepted to Andrew with six (6, count them!) doughnuts, if your appeal is upheld, you’re welcome to have them back 24 hours later when my digestive system has finished with them.

  8. An extra bonus 3 points and 1 (one) pre-appeal doughnut will go to the ‘best race’ organiser of the season. Judged in group discussion in kitchen somewhere around the end of the season. Picking cool car combinations with good tracks will gain you this prestigious award.

General Driving Habits and Rules
Be Nice...

Drivers must avoid running into the cars in front of them, if a driver brakes too late and will run into the car behind them the options of bailing out into the grass, gravel or wall must be taken if available to them (Edit: hahahaha, right! But seriously, watch for brake lights).

The driver ahead must not 'brake check' the driver behind, that is; the driver must not brake maliciously in order to force the car behind to crash into them (edit: You’ll probably crash anyhow!). The ahead driver is allowed to brake early into corners and maintain the racing line

If contact does occur and the guilty driver gains place(s) in result of the contact the driver in question must move off the racing line, slow down and allow the innocent driver(s) pass and the next possible point of the racetrack, if this is not carried out then penalties may apply.

Drivers must respect whom has the racing line when turning into and coming out of a corner, the driver which has the inside of a corner has the entrance advantage, other drivers must respect the driving line and avoid a collision.

When an overtake occurs and the passing driver brakes late and overshoots a corner they are not to turn sharply back into the racing line if it endangers any cars behind them who have maintained the racing line.

The lead driver has the right to defend their race position within reason, they have the right maintain their choice of racing line into and out of a corner, choose their position they wish to drive on a straight, they are not allowed to drastically change their line in a corner in order to prevent the car behind from passing resulting in a collision or the car behind having to resort to driving off the track to avoid an accident.

Weaving down a straight to break slipstream of a car behind is acceptable (I.e. you move out of their way). Weaving to block a car (i.e. as someone overtakes you turn into them) is not acceptable.

If you need to leave the race for some reason (i.e. in my case (Baloo) if I can hear baby crying and I need to attend - I hope they can hold on for another 10 minutes) move your car to the grass to a safe spot and let the race go. Otherwise if you press the Start button to quit the AI will take over and drive your car slowly through the track. We don't want to weave between ghost cars.

Final Word
Baloo and/or Andrew have the right to be the ones to call you an arse and tell you to go race somewhere else please. It’s unlikely, but you know if you can’t play nice then you’ll not be playing in our yard.
Have a nice day!

Welcome

FCT GT5 League is coming soon...
