GT590 - Too close to call!

Last upload for now. Maybe the trucks later, but I think that they were more fun to drive than watch. Besides I was hopeless in my bling ute, or Blute as I like to call it.
Anyway, in this race I managed to edge the win on the line, 0.008s in it. Close stuff and as you'll see from the last straight I thought it was over as Paul came past. Excellent stuff.

TC500 - Indianapolis Road Racing

And here's the replay for the TC500 race:

I think an apology or two is in order - firstly for that first bend turn on you Paul. IIRC I turned in, found a BMW hammering down the inside and turned out to avoid it, crashing both of us in the process.
Second apology is for having another shopping cart as a car - as Chris said on the night, "How come all your cars go sideways?"

-If you look real hard you might notice the odd Scandinavian flick...-

Legend...

No points racing last night folks. Which didn't mean it wasn't another top night's racing.
Going from 450pp trucks (which Paul aced) to TC500 (which Paul aced) to GT590 (which Paul aced...) and wrapping up with a 650pp race around the Motegi road course - a top track indeed (which Paul didn't ace).

Replays happing over the next few days - racing with the Avermedia in pass-through mode worked well actually. It didn't change the night's racing, but it did allow me to spin straight into replay and record mode, saving me messing around with outputs. And it isn't just handy for that, this I recorded using the pass-through technique too:

Nice I think you'll agree. Shame it's such a hard game to master, it's worth playing just for the sounds...

Of Nurburgring - we may well scratch it, though I'd like to do the race, so perhaps in one of our off weeks or at the end of the season. Anyway, not before mid January at the earliest.

Next week's race is a return to 587pp racers around Deep Forest, essentially league roots time. After all, who can remember this epic race:

Only three of us I suspect, as that was the league back then...

Anyway, you'll need a road car that can muster 587pp - let me know if you need me to lend you something, I have many...

Race on!

GT590 Replay Time

And here's the replay from our epic racing of the other night...

In glorious 720p if your internet can stand it.

League Race #4 Results

Sorry for the delay chaps - busy weekend!

Clubman Roundup
What excellent racing. The choice of Mini Cooper S and 207 GTi could have been a disaster. Certainly they felt terribly slow. But with boost on high and racing hard tyres the reality was some very close racing indeed.

Really there's no way to describe all the slow motion action that went on in the race - so check out the replay...

I reckon we all had a turn up the front at some point or other.

Evan, you're leading the clubman cup, and Paul you're just behind. Actually I think taking this championship will be a harder task than the full superstars season. Why? Well we're all in the same car so a lot of the opportunity to run away with a class is lost, every race it's equal chance for all.

Superstars Roundup
So after my Mini, getting into my GT590 and taking a warm up lap felt out of control. What ace cars they are.
But of the race, again a top tight couple of races, the GP/F track is an excellent race track with a good mix of corners and straights. Expect to see it in other seasons as we move forwards.

Luke started the night early, and as we chatted before the game he was well proud of his test and tune session. Somewhat undermined by my asking if he reckoned his R8 Audi was eligible for a Japanese race car class... But glad it came good. A rushed change to an older (than Chris's) Calsonic Skyline put him well in contention if not for an outright win then certainly for some serious points - as proved with his 3rd place in the second race (well done chap).
Whilst Simon is still learning tracks and styles, he's certainly on the pace a lot more, very soon we're going to see some good places coming in.
And Chris, I think it's par for course for you to not have the win but to get good strong finishes - here was no different, but at least I was in front, widening the gap a bit more.
Evan, the replay (upload coming soon) doesn't do that last lap justice in terms of trying to stay in front of your ballistic NSX. In the end you out dragged me down the straight, top win.

This week's pointless race
Change in plans folks.
Happy to give snow racing a go - but in a test race it was just too hard, too much snow spray actually.
So,official line is Monaco (Cote de whatever it is) and TC500/GT590 racing around there.
As always, it's up to the night to decide, please do drop me a line with requests, it would be great to get some member's choices!

Other news
So a firmware update on my avermedia means I have 1080p now - so may well upload the GT590 race of last week in uber resolution. Given it's not enduro it's only 1.2Gb...

Playing away...

I thought I'd try a test run of the recorder doobry with Dirt3. Apart from my lousy driving the results were good:

This also plays at 720p, and you need to have the sound up to really appreciate it.

Till Thursday folks...

League Race #4 - Bratwurst Special

Announcing Race #4 folks.

The track:
Nurburgring GP/F. We know it, we've raced it, and it's sorted.

Driving here requires a good car on the tight corners initially but with a fast back straight a slouch will get passed.
Also, learning the track is important, there's a few corners that cars drop into and the back straight chicane is a mess if you're going too fast!

The cars:
It's GT590 time folks. Tune up your Japanese race cars to 590pp and be ready to race on in stuff like this:

Mad, bad and very Rad. Not much to say about tuning. The NSXs will have a nice chance thanks to the two straights, but I wouldn't want to chance them around the bends so much.

Other news (if you've read this far):
So, the latest seasonal is interesting. The car you win if you manage it is the Ferrari 330 P6, This beauty in fact:

Worth the effort I think you'll agree.
If you need a car that can win (you'll need a well sorted Ferrari road car) then I have one in my shared garage. Details on how to borrow a car here. I turned on ASM and left everything else off, and it wasn't too difficult to win each race. Trial Mountain was the worst as the Enzos I was racing were very fast on the straights - I ended up cutting corners to gain time and pass.

Other league business:
The snow race (after this race) isn't going to happen folks. I'll decide on the race closer, but currently thinking 80's cars (Luke your Subaru will be perfect) around Monaco or similar. That was ace fun last season. Details to follow.

Experimental Racing...

The history of Le Mans is littered with prototypes. And our last race is no different.
Behold, I now use one of these!

And here is my first attempt:

Things I've learnt from this:
  • 1080i doesn't translate well to watching on the PC, 720p is probably better.
  • File size, 2Gb+
  • Movie maker cracks it around about this size.
  • Youtube doesn't allow edits, so a direct upload uploads all the pre/post shenanigans too. Ugly.

I seriously can't be bothered to re-upload this now, though I might from a faster connection (Fibre based upload anyone?). For now, this'll do - with apologies for the meconium.

As an aside, we like endurance yes, how about 24 hour racing in it's proper form:

Nice.

Race #3 Results

Race round up folks.
Rich media review to follow - hopefully something special (watch this space, or rather the one just above this post).

Clubman Roundup
Errr, oops. We forgot to race clubmans.
Now, we can skip it, or use next week's off race to catch up. Though I think that those at FCL will be at a buzz night, so probably not ideal.
As such, we'll save that for another week, perhaps in a couple of races time. In any case, no matter.

Superstars Roundup
Top race folks. Seven runners saw us with a good spread of cars in the race. I think all of us had something properly quick to run with, and the replay does look exceptionally good with the eclectic mix on the grid.
I think it was Chris that pointed out that in all our other classes we use the most recent cars, whilst nearly everything in this race was around the 2000 or before mark. Nice.

Highlights - well, so many. Once we got over my room kick (PSN I don't like you at all), the racing was re-run on the six lap format with time sped up a little more so that we weren't night racing the entire race.
Chris, Evan, Paul and I had a battle royal at the front. Well, Chris had a battle with his car keeping it on the road at the front, and the rest of us scrapped it out behind.
Paul, I'm not sure how many times we traded places per lap, but certainly your car was quicker into and round the corners whilst I could pull away down the straights. Ultimately as has been the case in many races a car that handles well will out race one that is just plain fast - though if you have a car that is lightspeed then you're in also, as Chris proved.
Special mention to Simon, well done in getting a good result chap - I suspect you didn't know that for enduro races we double the points. So a good uplift there that's brought you closer to Luke's spot.
And another special mention to Luke. Luke had this car:
Which tuned up to over 700Bhp (we/I was racing with around 650Bhp) and still had a bit of wing on it. Even the in-game write up said this car was epic. Which it is.
Alas, it turns out that it's fuel consumption was epic too, Luke's clever tyre strategy worked a charm to get him past Simon, but alas the fuel one wasn't so hot. What an excellent race to have events like that kick in.

Next week

Next week's event (this by the time you read it) is a no-points night, with a twist.
We'll be racing the hill-climb track that I have - it's a short minute or so length track, with some serious switch backs and elevation changes in it.
Essentially, this session is not a race session, it's a best time attack practice session.

Format
We'll start at 8:45, as we want to get into this, each class will have 1/2 an hour to race, before we step into the next class, so:
08:45 - TC500
09:15 - GT590
09:45 - 650Open
10:15 - Unlimited.

Note: I might change this if we get bored!

Classes are as per our usual race rules - see this as a 'getting to know you' session for your cars!
In each class it's a race to see who can set the fastest time - this gets posted on the practice lap time doobry on the top right of the screen (no name, but we'll figure that bit out). As we go up the classes we'll see the times come down (I hope!).
I'll also be turning on the penalties for practice, so wall riding won't work.

Here's me doing a hot lap in a 500pp RUF (not TC500!):

Anyway, let's see how we go in this session.

Race on!
