That was the largest racing field I've ever raced in online, and I reckon it went pretty well.
Here are some observations of the night I'd welcome feedback on:
- With so many racers, waiting on the last folks to arrive is a pain. On non-league nights we likely start early. For league nights it stands at 9pm start unless we all wish to bring it in a bit. Where we do decide to start early and someone is online (I can check) then I'll set the race laps to a suitable low number so racing completes in a timely manner.
- Again, big field, careful with the punting - actually I think we did pretty well on that score. Minor incidents in the most part.
- Hooning... driving up the wrong way on the track or causing others to crash during practice - this means that the driver you hit may not get a hot lap in, affecting their grid position. Please save it until the race start countdown begins.
- Cars - the classes are clear. Not so much of an issue in the pointless races, but in a league race you'll get minimum points whatever your finish position is.
- TC500 - how do we feel about 4wd Vs. 2wd? Baloo was brave enough to field a F/F car, which in fairness wasn't a total loss, but certainly was outclassed by the 4wd cars I think. Thoughts welcome on this one as not sure if worth worrying about. Personally, probably not as we can all buy something with traction if we want too...
- Boost - as we've all proven ourselves as capable racers we'll move to low boost for all races. No - boost maybe in the future, but some is handy for crash catchup.
- I'm thinking of publishing the tracks we'll race this season, but not with classes we'll be racing on them - this is to stop people like me (honestly I don't know what to pick at the moment) from over practising and having the advantage -though boost should sort that I suppose.
- Finally, I probably have 'favourite' tracks, and others may have different opinions. I'm more than happy to take race suggestions, especially where they make use our of our three race car classes. So certainly put forward car/track combos and we'll get them into discussion. Please, no complex scenarios though (like the banger racing last year), with so many drivers that's not going to work. Also consider some folks don't have specific cars.
Enough boring stuff, here's one of the Rome Reverse races from last night:
If we keep this up we're going to have an awesome season!
